Forensic Psychological Services

While various staff members of Professional Psychological Services, P.C. are skilled in the delivery of counseling and therapy services and have had forensic experience, Dr. Tim Branaman is the primary provider of forensic psychological services. Dr. Branaman, licensed in both Texas and Oklahoma, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Psychology.  He has worked in the field of psychology since 1974 and has been in private practice since 1984. He has provided expert legal testimony in  many cases during his tenure in private practice. Those include cases in civil and criminal courts, as well as Federal Immigration Court, in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and other counties throughout Texas including East Texas, South Texas, Central Texas, and the Panhandle. His courtroom experience includes testimony regarding sexual offenses, capital murder, child custody matters, competency to stand trial and to waive Miranda rights, civil commitment of sexual predators, and political asylum cases. He has frequently been appointed by the court for evaluation of parents and children in child custody litigation, as well as appointed to evaluate defendant's competency to stand trial.  He has also testified as an expert in criminal matters for both the State and the defense, as well as conducted evaluations for both plaintiff's and defendant's lawyers in civil cases.

Dr. Branaman has had extensive experience in the area of assessment and treatment of alcohol and drug dependence, as well as experience with compulsive sexual behavior, paraphilias, and sexual trauma. He has extensive training in offender risk assessment and has conducted evaluations of convicted sex offenders referred by the State for civil commitment under Texas Sexual Predator Laws.  He is licensed as a sex offender treatment provider (LSOTP) by the Texas Interagency Council on Sex Offender Treatment.  He is qualified under Texas statutory requirements to conduct evaluations for sanity and competency to stand trial.   As one of only a few psychologists trained in prescribing psychopharmacology, he is particularly experienced in working with the benefits and effects of psychotropic medications.   He has been qualified as an expert in several criminal trial courts to testify regarding behavioral effects of prescription medications, as well as alcohol and other substances. 

Dr. Branaman graduated from Texas A&M University/Commerce in 1981 with a doctoral degree in psychology. He was licensed by the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a psychologist and certified as a health service provider in 1982.  He is also licensed for practice in the State of Oklahoma.

Professional Psychological Services provides forensic evaluations and consultations for both adults and juveniles in the greater Dallas and North Texas area, as well as throughout the State of Texas. Such evaluations and consultations are provided to law firms, courts, corporations, insurance companies, and government agencies.

Evaluations include independent medical examinations (IMEs), evaluations of fitness for duty, personnel selection screening for high risk public safety employees, e.g., fire fighters, police officers, and personal protection officers (PPO).  Dr. Branaman has previously been assigned a registry number as an evaluator for TCLEOSE.  Independent medical examinations have been conducted for purpose of determining psychological impact of hostile work environment in employment discrimination cases, as well as psychological impact of incidents which have resulted in personal injury litigation.

Dr. Branaman has received extensive training in risk assessment of sex offenders and violent offenders.  He has provided extensive training for other professionals in the area of risk assessment, as well.  He also has specialized training and experience with the use of post-conviction polygraph assessments of sex offenders.  He has conducted evaluations for capital murder cases, competency to stand trial, insanity defense, aggravated sexual assault, sexual predator civil commitment,  and child custody.  He has provided expert testimony as a forensic psychologist for both state and federal courts.  Such testimony has been on behalf of both prosecution and defense attorneys.  He has also provided expert opinions and testimony having been appointed as an expert by the court.
